The 13th Door
The storyline surrounding this haunt is a man who locked up customers in his hotel. In order to get out of the hotel, you must find the 13th door. After the intro room you must find the next door to get out with numerous trick doors and creatures to distract you. There were three good scares in this haunted house, animatronics girl in a dresser, ghost in mirror and zombie in the laundry room. All of these were good but we only had one good scare from a real actor, a chained girl on a bed. Overall this was an unsophisticated haunted house with a few good scares. Pros: Animatronics, 2 haunts at this location
Cons: Too short, unenthusiastic actors, NO original or unique setting
Actor Count: 11
Haunt Length: 12 minutes

13th Street Manor
The storyline surrounding this haunt is a haunted mansion where your journey begins with a moving fireplace to crawl through. Shifting rooms and collapsing walls throughout are a well-done accent to the haunt. Be sure to wait for hidden passageways in some rooms, pay special attention to the bloody bathroom and study. Animatronics were throughout with VERY sparse actor presence. Multiple black walls with little decoration were a downfall to this haunt. This is one of three haunts at this location but all three end with the same chainsaw man for a final scare. We felt this was the weakest haunt of the three. Pros: Great compressor animatronics and sinking sand, 3 haunts at this location
Cons: Very short, lack of attention to detail/props, NO Restrooms!!!
Actor Count: 13
Haunt Length: 9 minutes

The Asylum
The Asylum’s storyline is based on a crazy asylum. We were looking forward to this haunt given its great reputation from previous years. The British accented host was excellent before we made our way into the haunt. Strobe lights were throughout this haunt and the best effect was when we entered the “slaughtered bodies in bags” room. Pushing through the bodies in the dark was a great effect. One room will definitely test your claustrophobia so keep an eye out for this room. 5 out of 6 of our reviewers were very nauseous due to the drastic change from strobe lights to blank black walls. This can be good or bad depending on your viewpoint. Lack of decoration and actors was the main downfall for this tented haunt. Overall, we were disappointed in such a highly touted haunt. Pros: British accent host, coroner scene, walk-in cooler room, Electrocutions
Cons: Excessive strobes in almost every room, blank walls, difficulty finding ticket
booth, and unenthusiastic chainsaw clown (took two steps toward us and turned
around).

We made the decision to not review this haunt due to the high price of entering Elitch Gardens and then an additional charge for the haunt. Also, this haunt is only open Saturday and Sunday nights. If you are an Elitch Gardens season ticket holder, you might want to check out this haunt and leave comments on our website. Pros: N/A
Cons: N/A
Actor Count: N/A

CarnEvil
CLOWNS, CLOWNS, CLOWNS…! If this is what you are looking for in a haunt then this is the haunt for you. This haunt moved to Red and Jerry’s from Southwest Plaza this year. The shaking/moving train to Carnevil, along with our conductor who brought the train to a screeching halt, was a great start to this haunt. Some highlights were a killer clown in a chain link room with multiple dead ends, Bull’s-eye board chained girl, and a shrinking hallway to mini clown room. Crawling through mini vortex also disoriented us but didn’t make anyone sick! Great effect! Pros: CLOWNS!!, train, bearded woman ticket taker
Cons: Actors not in roles, no signage on outside of Red and Jerry’s, stuffed tiger in zoo scene
Actor Count: 15
Haunt Length: 12 minutes

Curse of Slaughterhouse Gulch
The storyline surrounding this haunt is recent horror movies. Sniffing actor in the “rules room” and talking skeleton giving the rules was a good start to the haunt. Black hallway with Jason masks and strobes, sewer/tunnel hallway with Freddy Kruger, Michael Myers, the Saw clown and Ring girl were all great actors! Hannibal Lector, fully restrained on dolly, (or so it seems!) was one the best effects. This haunt relied on your fear of characters from horror films and had little props. Actors were definitely into their roles at this haunt. If you are deciding between the haunts at this location, this is definitely the better haunt. Pros: Numerous great actors, introduction room, IT clown, 2 haunts at this location
Cons: Leatherface flooded his chainsaw at end of haunt, no original or unique scares (Only ideas from movies)
Actor Count: 21
Haunt Length: 16 minutes

Field of Corpses
The storyline of this haunt also follows its name. We were looking forward to this haunted house given its reputation from previous years. This haunt begins with a guide (something we weren't’t expecting or saw at other haunts). Our guide was a bloody cloaked zombie who stayed in character throughout the haunt. This haunt relies on live actors and less on animatronics, although we liked the electrocution chamber. The attention to detail in each scene was amazing! The realistic feel of this haunt in a outdoor field really attributed to our high ranking. This dark outdoor setting was the consistent theme throughout all of our highest ranked haunts. This haunt lived up to its reputation as one of the best in Denver.
Pros: Intricate set design, intense numerous actors ALL with makeup
(NO MASKS), length, Butcher, movie trailer playing while waiting in line, good
security presence, scents
Cons: One of our reviewers did not like having the guide because she felt the guide
distracted her from some of the haunt. The rest of the review team felt there
were no cons to this haunt. We did wait longer for this haunt than any other,
but feel it was worth the wait!

Frightmare
The storyline is a haunted farm. This haunt has always been a favorite for haunted house enthusiasts and has been a renowned Colorado haunt for 22 years. We drove in with great expectations and overall we found this to be very good. This haunt begins with a vampire welcoming us into his castle in a haunted farm??? Silo with oversized clown and the walls of hay were two highlights of this haunt. The numerous switchbacks on the path don’t keep the other areas concealed. This is one of only three haunts that didn’t end with a chainsaw. However, their chainsaw man was really into his role. The actor with hay camouflage costume was a great scare! Pros: Outdoor setting, authentic feel, sinking hay
Cons: Vampire in castle?, one actor actually said, “boo”, timing of groups caused us to
run into patrons in front of us (taking away from scare effect)
Actor Count: 24
Haunt Length: 12 minutes

Haunted Field of Screams
The storyline is a haunted cornfield. The beginning of this haunt was great! If you have seen the movie “Saw”, you will love the intro! This haunt winds through 12-foot high corn with multiple scares. This haunt had some excellent ideas including, a haunted bus, hanging coffins above open graves and a glowing face in a pitch-black room. The authentic feel to this haunt included large corn stalk crosses, and scarecrows in the corn. Some of these scarecrows even came to life! The outdoor setting was again a consistent theme throughout all of our highest ranked haunts. Pros: Outdoor setting, wind howling through corn sent chills down our spine! Length, good security presence, timing between groups
Cons: Too many masks, not enough actors with realistic blood and makeup. Long line but worth the wait!
Actor Count: 39
Haunt Length: 21 minutes

Haunted Mansion
This haunt is located inside Reinke Bros costume store. This haunt has been around for over 33 years and has a very “Disney like” feel. This haunt is filled with animatronics and great decorations. This haunt is great for families and people looking for a basic haunt. Some highlights were the slanted 180-degree floor, clown hand grabbing you from the ceiling, hologram ghosts in the fireplace and the actors in the asylum. We loved the roasting Toto from The Wizard of Oz! There was excellent sound throughout the haunt. Pros: Re-entry for $3, Animatronics, Decoration, Sound
Cons: Lack of creepiness (since your inside a store), very minimal actors, length, ends in middle of store (like Disney)
Actor Count: 5
Haunt Length: 12 minutes

Murray Massacre: Carnival of Chaos
The storyline is a haunted school. We began by entering a school bus and Billy Bob as your driver. The caged girl in the back of the bus was a great touch! Bloody library with moving shelves, nasty and dirty locker room (girls keep close to the boys!), demented detention room and “Carrie like” prom scene were all great sets to this haunt. Sheets of black plastic used to make walls makes navigation difficult and treacherous at time when the wind is blowing. We felt the drunken teacher in lounge was inappropriate and not scary! Pros: Moving floors, original theme, actual little kids acting
Cons: Sheets of plastic used for walls, room with the fallen 2x4’s, and SKIP The
Haunted Maze and only do haunted house (Maze was TERRIBLE!).
Actor Count: 32
Haunt Length: 19 minutes

Primitive Fear
The storyline is a jungle theme. We began by entering an extremely foggy room with blaring music. Once finding your way out, you cross over a rocking wooden bridge. The best scare was a swinging log (think Indiana Jones) coming down toward you. A vertically collapsing wall and the best Jason we saw at any haunt were definite highlights. On a sour note, we witnessed a patron being tackled and assaulted in the parking lot by an actor. This was NOT A JOKE given that management was dealing with situation and the obviously aggravated girl after the attack. We did not let this affect the rating we gave this haunt but DEFINITELY wanted this to be known given that actors are never to touch a patron inside the haunt, let alone leave the haunt for confrontation. Pros: The wretched smell of Commerce City adds to the ambience, two other haunts at
this location, great animatronics
Cons: NO Restrooms!!, Lame waterfall, length, same crappy chainsaw actor at end of
haunt
Actor Count: 18
Haunt Length: 10 minutes

Realm of Terror
A dungeon theme haunt. It begins with an “underground” dungeon lit by flickering red lights held by gargoyles. The “feel” to this house was better than the other two haunts. The realistic guillotine and convulsing burlap man were unique. The best rooms were walking through bungee cord hallway, and pentagram room with cloaked actors. The pharaoh’s room was a good effect but didn’t flow with the theme of this haunt. The chainsaw man at the end of the haunt never actually fully chased any of us at the end of any of the three haunts. Pros: Original sets and props, two other haunts at this location, great animatronics
Cons: NO Restrooms!!, too short, same lame chainsaw actor at end of haunt
Actor Count: 15
Haunt Length: 8 minutes

Scream Park
This haunt was located in a country setting and is an “endless graveyard.” A teenager slaughtering another kid (who fell out of a dryer) and the actors chasing us into the barn was a great starting point! Roadkill Café serving eyeballs and body parts, Dr. Satan (ala House Of 1000 Corpses), and crawling through a real hearse were all creepy parts. Their original sets including a strobe lit room with hanging body bags was terrifying, not to mention the bloody man wandering within. The zombie on stilts and numerous chainsaws were also great! All actors were very intense and “in your face”. Pros: Length, actors, originality, outdoor set/props, scents
Cons: Poorly built movie screen in waiting line, exit very close to entrance (takes away
from final scare!)
Actor Count: 33
Haunt Length: 20 minutes

Spider Mansion
This haunt is located at Heritage Square. Even though it’s title would make you think it was infested with spiders, there are only two rubber ones in the entire haunt. The disappearing “Shining” girl was the best effect in this haunt. The rocking bridge and “Hannibal” mask actor were also decent. However, this haunt had very little flow and multiple blank black rooms with strobes. Overall, this was the worst haunt of all the haunts we reviewed. No rules were ever given, rules posted or any disclaimers on the back of ticket, which concerned us after our experience at Primitive Fear (see review). Pros: Disappearing girl, Simultaneous animatronics
Cons: Long wait, VERY SHORT, lack of rules/security, poor set design, excessive
strobes caused 4/6 reviewers to be nauseous, spiders???
Actor Count: 11
Haunt Length: 8 minutes

Terror in the Corn
This haunt is a real working farm! Your adventure begins on a 10-minute hayride with the theme “the fields have been taken over by pirates!”. The journey goes through 5 “comedic” stops to set the scene. We felt this was an original way to start the actual haunt. We were dropped off in a dark field, lit only by a bonfire, which was very unsettling. The actual haunt from here is 20 minutes. The scenes weave through 9-foot tall corn, ending at a pirate ship. Sinking mats, jewels and pirates were inside. When we escaped the ship, we entered a mineshaft and then on to an old west scene, both with great actors. Some highlights include puking man, and “bird flu” with dead babies room. Pros: Graveyard with famous killers, original idea, length, Corn Maze (included with
ticket price). Best “bang for you buck”
Cons: Distance from Denver, No real ending to haunt, not enough sounds to set the
tone
Actor Count: 41
Haunt Length: 30 minutes
